Proofreading graphic novels comes with a variety of unique challenges, with multiple levels of attention to detail and a slightly different production process that relies more heavily on proofreaders than traditional publishing. Come learn the ins and outs of this exciting genre!

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand and identify key differences in graphic vs. long-form novel formatting as it relates to proofreading.
  • Identify and determine level of editing for the various stages of production of a graphic novel.
  • Learn best practices for reviewing and marking up graphic novel PDF files.

About the presenter:

Lara Kennedy is a freelance copyeditor and proofreader working with a variety of clients on everything from college textbooks to graphic novels. Her freelance work includes bestselling series and titles with big-name publishers such as Scholastic, Bloomsbury, and Penguin Random House, as well as a number of award-winning indie authors. Before entering freelance work full-time, she worked as a copyeditor for the US federal government, production coordinator at Scholastic, and production editorial assistant at Wiley & Sons.
