Speaker: Morgan Plessner

Description:

Sharing your writing with anyone is an act of vulnerability—sharing it with an editor can be downright scary. Working with “non-writers” (people whose jobs are not writing-first) means that you (as an editor) need to approach the editorial process with care.

If you’re an editor working with people whose jobs are not writing-first, this webcast will empower you with mindset strategies that foster trust, collaboration, and an empathetic working relationship with your clients. Every industry, client, and project is different. The basic principles covered in this training provide a foundation for cultivating the coaching mindset required of a great editor.

Three learning objectives:

  1. Help your client identify their goals/audience/deepest intention, meet them where they’re at, and collaborate to ensure your client’s work is original, unique, and personal.
  2. Act as a trusted advisor by communicating with curiosity, delivering thoughtful feedback, collaborating, and diffusing tension.
  3. Guide your client through the editorial process and help them develop their style and voice with the goal of giving them an excellent editorial experience.

Cost: Free for ACES members/$30 for nonmembers
