If you're a freelancer or do any freelancing on the side, you've probably figured out by now that you have a little more to do when it comes to taxes. You pay a little more. (But wait, you also get a credit?) There are more forms. And there's estimated taxes, do you really have to pay those? Plus, you can deduct business expenses, do you know which ones exactly? And what's depreciation? And can I take the home-office deduction? Tax season is over, but preparing for the next one is a year-round endeavor. This session will help you be ready.

About the presenter:
While Neil Holdway was an editor at the Daily Herald of suburban Chicago for 31 years, he was working for a sole proprietor on the side, helping him write, edit and produce travel booklets. Then he also started keeping the books, which he later also did as treasurer of ACES: The Society for Editing and the ACES Education Fund. Soon he also started doing the sole proprietor's taxes, and he still does them now for his widow and others. Since retirement from the newspaper in 2023, Neil obtained formal training on personal and self-employment returns, and received his AFSP Record of Completion from the IRS to make its list of recommended tax preparers. He also is running his own website on bicycling.
